How to Craft Effective Headline News for Bloggers

headline news

Headline news is news that grabs readers’ attention and draws them in to read more. A headline is usually written in large, bold type and is placed at the top of an article. It should be concise, snappy and informative. It should give the reader a preview of what is to follow in the body of the article. The headline is the first thing that people see when they scroll through a list of search engine results or click on a link in a bookmarks menu, and it’s one of the most important things a blogger can do to get noticed by their audience.

There are a number of different ways to craft effective headlines for blog posts and other articles, but there are also some tried-and-true formulas that have stood the test of time. For example, a good way to get a reader’s attention is to use an adjective in the title that will trigger an emotion – such as shocking, shockingly, amazing, outrageous or heartbreaking. This technique has been used by tabloid newspapers for decades.

Another tip is to keep the words as short as possible without losing their meaning; use a hyphen when necessary to make it fit. Likewise, capitalize only the first word and proper nouns (people, places, companies) and drop the little helping words like articles (a, an, the) and conjunctions (and, but, or).

It’s important to write in the present tense because it sounds urgent; writing in the past tense is less so. A good headline should also include a verb and avoid using adverbs. A headline that uses a power word – ultimate, best, only, guaranteed – is likely to draw more clicks because it signals to the reader that the story will be something that will improve their life or solve a problem.
