Parliament Updates

Updates from the UK Parliament’s two Houses, which check and challenge government and make/shape effective laws.

This week: MPs quiz the Attorney General and Chief Crown Prosecution Service prosecutor at Home Questions, while Peers debate Ukraine and hear from hospice and care sector representatives on the assisted dying bill’s Second Reading. Parliament re-appoints Joelle Elvinger and Stef Blok for their second terms as members of the European Court of Auditors, and MEPs adopt new EU rules on vehicle recycling and circularity. MEPs also express grave alarm at the ‘catastrophic’ humanitarian situation in Gaza, and urge the EU to support peace in Colombia.

The benefits of reading for pleasure are highlighted, as Graham Perrett co-Chairs the Australia Reads Parliamentary Friends of Australian Books & Writers group. The group will continue to advocate for a national strategy and targeted campaigns for reading for pleasure.
