Smartphone Release Schedule for 2010

With new smartphones constantly hitting the market, there’s always a shiny new phone out there to tempt you away from your old one. From foldables to clamshells, there’s no shortage of options to choose from when you’re ready to upgrade your phone.

Cellular phones predated smartphones by a few years, but the true first mobile smartphone hit the market in April of 1973 when Motorola debuted its DynaTAC 8000X. At a staggering $4,000, it wasn’t the most practical gadget on the market — with its clunky design and 30 minute battery life, it was more of a status symbol than anything else – but it opened the door for future advancements in portable digital technology.

The next big milestone came in 2007 when Apple introduced the iPhone. With a touchscreen, iPod integration and Internet access capabilities, the iPhone was the most advanced smartphone on the market and marked a major shift in how people use their phones.

This year, we’ll see more refinement in Samsung’s Galaxy S lineup and a continued push into foldables (including new form factors). We also expect to see a more consistent release schedule from Google for its Pixel phones, with rumors suggesting the latest Pixel 9 phones will be arriving in August instead of October like last year.
